Questions people ask

What do the green and amber lines mean?

Green is a road posted 35 mph and under, and SlowGo builds routes around the green ones. Amber marks a stretch to look at before you ride, such as a road with no speed limit on record, or a road posted 36 to 45 if you've turned on faster stretches; the route names it, with how far it runs, before you start. SlowGo won't route you along a road it knows is posted over 45.

It says "That one's a NoGo." What now?

It means there's no route to that place that stays on roads posted 35 and under. Rather than quietly putting you on a fast road, SlowGo tells you. Try a different spot nearby. If you know a cart path we're missing, tell us at hello@slowgoapp.com.

How do I get a one-tap route home?

Save your home as a favorite and name it Home. After that, when you arrive somewhere, SlowGo will offer to take you back.

Can I turn the voice off?

Yes. Settings, under Navigation, then Voice Directions. The Volume setting just below it controls how loud it is.

Can I see what I'm saving by taking the cart instead of the car?

Yes. Settings, under Gas Savings. Turn on Track Gas Savings, then set the gas price and your car's mileage, and SlowGo keeps a running total.

Where do I tell it about my cart?

Settings, under Cart Preferences. You can say whether you drive a golf cart or an LSV, and roughly how far you go on a charge.

What happens to my trips?

They stay on this phone. SlowGo keeps your last 100 and stores their start and end points rounded to about an 11-metre grid — coarser than the reading your phone takes, so what's saved is the rounded point rather than the exact one. You can turn saving off, or clear them, in Settings under Privacy.

Does it work outside The Villages?

Yes, if you're in Florida, Georgia or Arizona. Those three states are where SlowGo's speed-limit data lives today — The Villages, Sun City Center, Naples, Ocean Reef, Peachtree City, and the rest of all three states. Where a road carries a posted limit, SlowGo checks it. Where it doesn't, SlowGo judges conservatively from the kind of road it is and tells you so on the route.

Outside those three states you can search, browse the map, and plan a ride, but SlowGo won't start one. We check a state's roads before we turn it on, rather than guess at a speed limit. If you want your state next, tell me where you ride.

I searched for a place and it didn't come up.

Try the full name, or a nearby cross street. If somewhere you know is missing, send it to me. A name and a town is enough.

Do I need an account? What does it cost?

No account, no ads, and nothing to pay. There's a short setup the first time you open the app — the terms, a few preferences, the safety basics — and then it stays out of your way.
