Clermont is running a three-year golf cart pilot: registered carts may use city roads west of US 27 and north of SR 50. The pilot may end February 10, 2029.
What we haven’t checked. This page rests on the city’s 2026 registration form, which names Ordinance 2026-002. We haven’t read the ordinance itself.
State law: see golf cart laws in Florida.
Do you need a driver’s license to drive a golf cart in Clermont?
Not always. The city’s form asks for a valid license (a learner’s permit counts), or for drivers 18 and over, a government-issued photo ID.
How old do you have to be to drive a golf cart in Clermont?
Under 18, a learner’s permit or a driver’s license. 18 and over, a government-issued photo ID.
Does a golf cart need a permit or registration in Clermont?
Yes. Register the cart with the city ($20); the sticker goes on the driver’s side. The form includes a notarized hold-harmless statement.
Required equipment: brakes, tires, a mirror, and red reflectors front and rear.
Where can golf carts go in Clermont?
City of Clermont roads west of US 27 and north of SR 50, under Ordinance 2026-002. Not on the South Lake Trail. Normal traffic laws apply.
Golf cart or LSV: what’s the difference in Clermont?
A low-speed vehicle (LSV) is different from a golf cart: it goes faster than 20 mph (up to 25), meets the federal LSV safety standard, and has to be titled, registered and insured, with a licensed driver. Under Florida law an LSV can use streets posted 35 mph or less, unless the local government has closed a road to them. An LSV can’t travel along roads posted over 35; lawful crossings are separately regulated.
Can you drive a golf cart at night in Clermont? Hours and lights
At night, only with headlights, brake lights, turn signals and a windshield.
A pilot program
The pilot runs for three years and may end February 10, 2029. The city’s older regulations page said carts weren’t permitted on city roads; the 2026 pilot replaced that.
Follow the law and posted signs. Follow applicable law, posted restrictions and lawful directions from officers. If permission is unclear, don’t use that road or path until confirmed. Rules can change after we check them.
Using SlowGo here
SlowGo routes on roads posted 35 mph or under by default; it doesn’t establish cart access here.
Check local rules before you ride. It doesn’t know Clermont’s pilot area yet, so a route can go east of US 27 or south of SR 50, where carts can’t ride. Check the map before you ride.
