What we haven’t checked. This page rests on the Golf Cart section of the city’s Permits / Licenses page, which isn’t dated. We haven’t read the Motorized Cart Ordinance (sec. 82-260) behind it.

Do you need a driver’s license to drive a golf cart in Fayetteville?

The city’s page doesn’t state a license rule for drivers. Under Georgia law, a PTV driver needs a valid driver’s license unless the local ordinance let unlicensed drivers ride before 2012. We haven’t read Fayetteville’s ordinance, so check with the city.

How old do you have to be to drive a golf cart in Fayetteville?

You must be 18 or older to register a cart. The city’s page doesn’t give a driver age.

Does a golf cart need a permit or registration in Fayetteville?

Yes. Register the cart at the Fayetteville Police Department, 760 Jimmie Mayfield Drive (770-461-4441). It costs $20 and stays valid until the cart changes hands. You must be 18 or older to register.

Where can golf carts go in Fayetteville?

Only within subdivisions and on the authorized recreational paths:

  • the whole Helen Sams Parkway path
  • the Lester Road path, from Cleveland Avenue Elementary School to Lester Road at Old Norton Road
  • the Redwine Road path, from Longlake Approach to Lakemont Drive

The city lists more for after their paths are built: Redwine Road from Lakemont Drive to Ramah Road, Towne Center and Summit Point.

Golf cart or LSV: what’s the difference in Fayetteville?

A low-speed vehicle (LSV) is a separate class under Georgia law: four wheels, a top speed over 20 mph and up to 25, built or converted to the federal LSV standard. LSVs are registered and insured like other vehicles and can use roads posted 35 mph or less. An LSV can’t travel along roads posted over 35; lawful crossings are separately regulated.

Can you drive a golf cart at night in Fayetteville? Hours and lights

The city’s page doesn’t set hours.

Follow the law and posted signs. Follow applicable law, posted restrictions and lawful directions from officers. If permission is unclear, don’t use that road or path until confirmed. Rules can change after we check them.

Using SlowGo here

SlowGo routes on roads posted 35 mph or under by default; it doesn’t establish cart access here.

Check local rules before you ride. It doesn’t know that Fayetteville keeps carts to subdivisions and the listed paths, so a route can use a city street carts can’t. Don’t take that part of the route in a cart.
