Flagler Beach lets registered, inspected golf carts use city streets, but not State Road A1A or State Road 100. Drivers need a valid driver’s license.
What we haven’t checked. This page rests on the city’s 2026 golf cart packet. We haven’t read the ordinance behind it, and the packet doesn’t say whether carts may cross A1A or State Road 100.
State law: see golf cart laws in Florida.
Do you need a driver’s license to drive a golf cart in Flagler Beach?
Yes. The city’s inspection checklist asks for a valid driver’s license.
How old do you have to be to drive a golf cart in Flagler Beach?
The city ties driving to the license rather than to an age: the driver needs a valid driver’s license.
Does a golf cart need a permit or registration in Flagler Beach?
Yes. Carts are registered every year (January 1 to December 31), with a police inspection the first time. It costs $40 to start and $30 to renew before January 31 ($40 after). Bring proof of insurance.
Required equipment: seat belts for everyone, a full windshield, two headlights, turn signals, two brake lights, a horn, good tires, a mirror, steering, rear reflectors, and side reflectors for night.
Where can golf carts go in Flagler Beach?
City streets, but not State Road A1A or State Road 100.
Golf cart or LSV: what’s the difference in Flagler Beach?
A low-speed vehicle (LSV) is different from a golf cart: it goes faster than 20 mph (up to 25), meets the federal LSV safety standard, and has to be titled, registered and insured, with a licensed driver. Under Florida law an LSV can use streets posted 35 mph or less, unless the local government has closed a road to them. An LSV can’t travel along roads posted over 35; lawful crossings are separately regulated.
Can you drive a golf cart at night in Flagler Beach? Hours and lights
At night, or in fog, smoke or rain, only with headlights on.
Follow the law and posted signs. Follow applicable law, posted restrictions and lawful directions from officers. If permission is unclear, don’t use that road or path until confirmed. Rules can change after we check them.
Using SlowGo here
SlowGo routes on roads posted 35 mph or under by default; it doesn’t establish cart access here.
Check local rules before you ride. It doesn’t know that A1A and State Road 100 are closed to carts here, so if a route runs along either one, don’t take it in a cart.
