What we haven’t checked. This page rests on the city’s PTVs/Golf Cart Registration page, which isn’t dated. We haven’t read the city’s PTV ordinance or opened the city’s guide with the crossing map.

Do you need a driver’s license to drive a golf cart (PTV) in Griffin?

The city’s page doesn’t state a license rule. Under Georgia law, a PTV driver needs a valid driver’s license unless the local ordinance let unlicensed drivers ride before 2012. We haven’t read Griffin’s ordinance, so check with the city.

How old do you have to be to drive a golf cart in Griffin?

Driver ages aren’t on the city’s page. Check with the city.

Does a golf cart need a permit or registration in Griffin?

Yes. Register the PTV every year with the Griffin Police Department: $15 a year ($7.50 after July 1), renewed between January 1 and April 1, with a $15 late fee. You get two decals.

Equipment: head and tail lamps, reflex reflectors, a horn, a rearview mirror, hip restraints and handholds, brakes including a parking brake, a reverse warning device and a main power switch.

Where can golf carts go in Griffin?

Public roads, recreational paths and other public property, but not roads posted over 35 mph, and not federal or state highways whatever their speed limit, unless the Georgia Department of Transportation has designated them.

Cross a state highway only at a GDOT-approved crossing marked with a cart crossing sign. Not on sidewalks or unauthorized recreation paths.

Golf cart or LSV: what’s the difference in Griffin?

A low-speed vehicle (LSV) is a separate class under Georgia law: four wheels, a top speed over 20 mph and up to 25, built or converted to the federal LSV standard. LSVs are registered and insured like other vehicles and can use roads posted 35 mph or less. An LSV can’t travel along roads posted over 35; lawful crossings are separately regulated.

Can you drive a golf cart at night in Griffin? Hours and lights

The city’s page doesn’t set hours. Every PTV needs head and tail lamps.

On the road

One person per seat. A PTV gets the full use of a lane: no passing in the same lane, no riding between lanes and no riding two abreast. Alcohol laws apply. Fines run up to $1,000, and three or more violations in two years can cost the PTV its registration for two years.

Follow the law and posted signs. Follow applicable law, posted restrictions and lawful directions from officers. If permission is unclear, don’t use that road or path until confirmed. Rules can change after we check them.

Using SlowGo here

SlowGo routes on roads posted 35 mph or under by default; it doesn’t establish cart access here.

Check local rules before you ride. It doesn’t know Griffin’s rule for federal and state highways or where the GDOT crossings are, so a route can run along or cross a highway carts can’t use. Check the city’s guide before you ride.
